We don’t usually compare the whole story—we only compare the parts that look shiny on the outside. I’ve had women say, “I wish I looked like you,” but my first thought is always, Do you want my 18 years of sickness, my years of anxiety, my infertility heartbreak? Comparison convinces us that someone else’s highlight reel is the full picture. But when we trade gratitude for comparison, we rob ourselves of joy.
